One of the cheapest possible forms of exercise is running. You don’t need very much equipment to start or fancy clothing. The only important thing that is required is a high quality pair of running shoes.

When starting out the running shoes that you buy don’t have to be top of the line shoes. The distances that you will be running in your early stages at the sport are not going to be overly long. Similarly the number of runs you will be doing will not be high each week. So the shoes that you buy should be more suitable to a low distance and low frequency runner.

Your foot shape is ultimately going to determine the type of shoe you buy when your weekly mileage has increased. Some people require running shoes that are more cushioned while others require support to prevent the feet from rolling too much. When buying your first pair of running shoes don’t be overly concerned over the fact that you may over-pronate or otherwise. That kind of concern will come later.

Your body frame is going to make an impact on the type of running shoes you buy because the heavier you are the more cushioning you will require in a shoe. If the shoe is going to sufficiently absorb the impact of a heavier framed person it is going to have to be a heavier, more durable shoe.

As long as you find yourself a comfortable pair of shoes that provide you with enough cushioning to ensure there will be no stress related injuries, the cost should not be an issue. As mentioned before, you don’t need to buy the top of the line model but there are plenty of mid-priced running shoes to choose from. My personal preference is a mid-range pair of Asics running shoes such as the Asics Gel Fluent.
